Travel Book Club!

I'm a fan of biographies cause they're an interesting way to learn history or be inspired.

I just finished a fantastic book called "Song of Haiti" about an American couple who founded a hospital in Haiti in 1956. It's a great read and I learned a bit about Haiti to boot.

Read anything good lately?

I alwasy love Salman Rushdie's books. I have become fascinated by India as seen trhough his eyes. One of his books, "The Ground Beneath Her Feet", is one of my all-time favorites.

Alain Boton's "The Art of Travel" is another keeper.

Anything in the "Traveler's Tales" series is outstanding. There is something in this series for everyone. I'm currently reading "Love & Romance' and it's just as good as all the other books I've read in this series.

Dancing With Cuba, by Alma Guillermoprieto. If it's possible to feel nostalgia for someone else's experiences, this book did it to me.

I love Anne Mustoe's book on bicycling in China and Australia. She is a retired British headmistress and has wonderful insights about traveling- such as how to get a room in a town that is 'full'. (Get a cup a coffee in a cafe, chat up the owner and they will feel responsible/ interested in helping you find a room.)

          Hi friends,

MTB started in August 2001 and so over the next year I'll editing a book on "The first 5 yrs". I think it's worth celebrating a 5 yr anniversary, eh? All stories and photos posted on the site will be considered for the book. I'm also hoping to add a lot of my own comments about the organization and the website etc.

          Stay tuned! -Amanda
